Imitation is the Best Form of Flattery
Calandra Racing Concepts (CRC) is proud of it's place as a leader in
engineering, design and technology in the R/C Model Car field. From our
revolutionary designs with chassis, front suspensions and wheels to our uniquely
engineered projects like Clik Trak and Fasttrak, CRC is always leading the way.
engineering school, I learned a couple basic principles; if an idea or design
works, build your idea around it and expand from there. Secondly, remember to
blaze a new trail, be the first to leave footprints; innovate, create and
maintain a passion to be a leader.
the small world of 1:12th wheels, CRC was the first to offer the high roller 38
mm wheels that maximized wheel dimensions to the full extent of the rules. We
took special care to make the wheel light and strong. All other manufactures
soon followed with high roller designs of their own.
The Real Deal, Genuine CRC Pro Cuts
Today, I see in a press release that ATS Tires in Italy has taken the phrase
"don't re-invent the wheel" to whole new level by making a close copy of the
popular CRC High Roller 38 (HR38) 1:12th wheel.
have seen this wheel up close and it is not identical in design to the current range of CRC wheels.
Upon closer inspection, you will notice the CRC wheel has smooth flowing
internal radius fillets on the ribs and spokes of the wheel. The ATS version has a sharp, rough,
unfinished look. Their marketing claims of new materials producing superior
results have yet to be proven on the track.
tires mounted on genuine CRC wheels are Champions of the following recent major
Indoor Champioships in Las Vegas
2008 U.S. Indoor
Champs in Cleveland
2008 Snowbirds in
2009 Euro Champs in
2009 ROAR Nationals
While I am flattered that ATS liked our design enough to pattern their wheel
after ours, I must say that I certainly expected more from a large tire company
like ATS. I expect a "copy wheel" from a small start-up company, but not a
company the size of ATS .
In an effort to insure our loyal CRC
tire customers do not get caught up in this issue, I feel compelled to clear the
air and end any possible confusion.
