Fresh off a T.Q. and win in Cleveland earlier in November, CRC driver Andrew Knapp headed south to Florida to take on the best onroad drivers at the 2011 Snowbird Nationals. Using a very stock CRC Generation XL (#3202), CRC battery, tires and body, Andrew went on to take the Top Qualifying position in both the limited 17.5 turn class and the 13.5 class which used open speedo timing rules. In addition, Knapp won the 17.5 A-main in convincing fashion setting fast lap in both 17.5 and 13.5 A-mains.
1:12th Scale 17.5
Joining Andrew on the front row of the 17.5 A-main was CRC driver, Kenny Lambert. Andrew and Kenny were the same dynamic duo that sat on the front row at U.S. Indoor Champs in Cleveland in November. Joining the duo in the A-main of 17.5 was Michigan Mafia boss, Terry Rott. All three drivers used the CRC Gen-XL cars, Black Art R8C bodies, CRC Maxxcell lipo batteries and CRC Pro Cut tires.

Forth round drama…. As usual in the 4th round of any major race, the Top Qualifying position is destined to change. During this round, Andrew withstood a pressure packed run; leading the race and running quick enough that his pace was 4 seconds faster than the current T.Q. with about 2 minutes to go in the qualifier. The current T.Q. driver was on the track with him during the 4th round. As the 4th qualifier continued, Andrew caught that same driver and in a very un-sportsman like move, he blocked the youngster for few laps causing Andrew to make a small mistake and fall back a bit. Andrew immediately caught back up to the much slower driver and again he was blocked. Andrew kept his cool and finally after repeated requests from the race management team, the blocking dump truck moved out of the way for Andrew to go on and take a solid T.Q.. An awesome result under very difficult, pressure packed conditions. A clutch T.Q. run in the 4th round under this much pressure displayed many positves; the focus and skills of the driver and the speed and consistancy of the car, tires, body and battery. A well deserved T.Q. from the young man from Michigan.
Joining Andrew in the A-main were CRC drivers Jilles Groskamp, David Ehrlich and Jari Taskila. All 4 drivers used the full “CRC race” package; CRC Maxxcell lipo racing battery (#3701), CRC Pro Cut Magenta Front tires (#2172), Pro Cut Pink Rear tires (#2175) and Black Art R8C (#4167) racing body.
Oval Action
Colorado driver Mario Ficco took his CRC 1:0th Battle Axe oval car to a podium finish in Sportsman Truck. No stranger to success in this class, the Battle Axe was victorious in 2009 the truck class. Now in 2011, Mario Ficcio returns the Battle Axe to the podium using a stock, production car kit. At a street price around $250, the CRC Battle Axe is a great car that can win on any oval track for a half the price of other cars on the market.
