T.Q.’s + WINS the 2008 IFMAR World Championships
Young Naoto Matsukura from Japan uses the R8c (#4167) to T.Q. and win the worlds.
With the 2008 IFMAR 1:12th World Championships being held on asphalt, many teams and racers from the U.S.A. elected to skip the event. A real shame as the race promoter at RC Speedway in Thailand did a wonderful job putting together a top-notch event. While the CRC team was not able to do the extensive testing that some of the teams did in Thailand, the CRC factory drivers were able to prepare for the event and put together a very competitive chassis and tire setup. CRC has worked closely with our European and Japanese teams to build a great asphalt conversion for the Gen-X 1:12th car, this conversion has been available from our Japanese importer for a few years. This Worlds was an opportunity to further develop the JSPEC conversion and prove to the world the Gen-X was capable on pavement as well. In the USA, it is rare to run these cars on asphalt, so this would be a big challenge to capture the World Championship.
Team CRC drivers Hupo Honigl and Jilles Groskamp did a great job to put their CRC Generation X (#3200) cars in the A-final at the World Championships in Bangkok, Thailand. Both Hupo and Jilles used the new 2009 JSPEC conversion (January 2009) to transform the Gen-X car into an asphalt killer. In addition, both drivers used the new 3349 Brushless pod conversion as well as the “long ball” Pro-Strut front end.
Hupo Honigl had multiple runs in the top 3 to place his CRC Generation X 1:12th car in 3rd qualifying position. In the triple A-main format, Hupo was under pressure as a DNF in the first main required the Austrian to run very solid in the 2nd + 3rd final. In A-main #2, Hupo had a great battle with Germany’s Marc Rheinard. In the final minutes of A2, Hupo powered away taking 3rd place, setting up the CRC driver for a possible podium position. In A3, Hupo went on to take third and put his LRP Powered CRC Gen-X on the Podium. Great run! Fresh off a great win at the IIC in Las Vegas and now a top 3 qualifying spot at the Worlds, the Austrian driver has now proven to be a big threat at any major 1:12th event.
Joining Hupo in the A-Final, CRC Factory Pilot Jilles Groskamp from the Netherlands. Jilles put his CRC Gen-X 1:12th car in the 6th qualifying position. One of only a few drivers to turn 40 laps, Jilles super smooth yet aggressive style has kept him in striking distance of the win.

Although many of the competitors have resorted to special exotic rims and tires, CRC Pro Cuts performed very well in the heat of Thailand. While many of the top drivers have deserted their normal tire sponsors in search of speed, the CRC boys in Thailand have run very strong on the CRC Pro Cuts.
Congratulations to all the competitors and the race organizers. A special thanks to the dedicated CRC drivers Hupo and Jilles for a fine result!
New Black Art Body available from CRC is the
2008 IFMAR World TOP QUALIFIER!
Young Yokomo driver Naoto Matsukura from Japan was testing in Thailand when he heard good things about an R8C body. A few weeks later at the actual event, Naoto had found the body and painted one up to test during practice. The result….. A World Championship TOP Qualifier and winner. The new R8C body is available from CRC. It is pulled from .5 mm genuine GE Lexan and has a clear plastic cover to protect the body from overspray.
Another cool feature
about the body is it comes with “dimples” for easy mounting for Associated,
CRC and Corally. Just use a body reamer on the corresponding dimple mark, and
mounting is a snap. This body first popped onto the racing scene in Las Vegas
with Frank Jr. qualifiying 3rd in 1:12th stock. Since then, A-finishes at the
Halloween Classic and now the biggest win of all, a World Championship.
The body is ROAR and IFMAR approved and the part # is 4167. The Black Art R8C is available at any hobby store that deals with Horizon Hobby Distributors or from our website directly here.
