CRC drivers Jilles Groskamp and Elliott Harper take their CRC Gen-XL cars to an A-main result at the 2010 IFMAR World Championships. With a 3rd in A2 and an impressive win in A3 final, Jilles Groskamp takes a strong 2nd overall.

At this year’s World Championships in Burgdorf, Germany, Calandra Racing Concepts continued the string of impressive finishes with a very strong 2nd place result from Jilles Groskamp. Looking back to 2004 in Kissimmee, Florida, Groskamp and Marc Rheinard took their CRC Carpet Knife 3.2 cars and CRC tires to A-main finishes with Groskamp finishing 4th. Two years later in Italy, Marc Rheinard and Paul Lemeiux again put CRC in the A-main with great performances with the CRC cars and tires. With a tough jump start penalty, Rheinard finished 3rd with the champion David Spashette using CRC Pro Cuts to win the title.  In 2008 in Thailand, Hupo Hönigl and Jilles Groskamp again put CRC in the A-final with Hönigl taking 3rd on the podium.

For the 2010 Worlds in Burgdorf, Germany, CRC rolled in with a refined Gen-XL car, the new CRC 3.7v 1s lipo battery and the best tire in 1:12th racing, CRC Pro Cuts. At the event, CRC drivers Hupo Hönigl, Jilles Groskamp and Elliott Harper used the new Gen-XL fitted with a new lipo-only chassis. Also, the 2010 Worlds marked the first big event for the ROAR and IFMAR legal CRC #3700 single cell lipo pack.

As grip levels built up on qualifying day, many competitors began to run short on battery life. The CRC Maxxcell 3.7 volt 1s lipo battery provided the power and runtime that Groskamp needed to rundown the competition in the closing seconds of A-main #2. This late race pressure was the result of Jillles’ strong runtime deep in the run, pushing his CRC ride past the competition. With a great result and pass in in closing seconds of A2, Groskamp had strong confidence for A main #3. Groskamp went on to win the A3 in convincing style.

The A-main cars of Groskamp (2nd) and Harper (6th). Very stock

CRC Gen-XL cars with a minimum of factory available option

parts. The new CRC “red pack” provided power and duration for

the 8 minute races with 3.5 modified motors.

Three A-main cars used CRC Pro Cut tires. In addition to Harper

and Groskamp, American driver Paul LeMieux also used Pro Cuts

to put his machine in the A-main.

The race featured CRC’s awesome Fasttrak Racing carpet for the official race surface. With the industry standard CRC Fasttrak, racers were practically assured of a high bite racing surface. However, due to a poor batch of traction additive, grip levels were slow to build. After the official practice day, the host club agreed that their was indeed an additive problem and allowed a second additive. The new traction treatment quickly brought grip levels up to the normal high bite standards of CRC Fasttrak.

CRC Fasttrak carpet provided the grip and no-fuzz surface. For

the finest carpet surface, all the top indoor races use CRC Fasttrak

racing carpet. IIC, Indoor Champs, Snowbirds and the Worlds!

While the track and grip levels in Germany proved to be a challenge due to the defective traction additive, CRC racers had a foam tire compound for every condition. World Champion Pro Cut tires continue to lead the way in 1:12th tires.

Summary;

A big thanks to the DMC host club in Germany and to IFMAR for allowing the traction additive change. After we approached the committee with concerns over the handout traction additive, they had the strength and knowledge to make the right call and allow a proper (and different) traction additive. Within minutes of the new additive, traction levels were on the increase. Great job.

With another World Championship in the books, we are pleased with the results. While the goal was to win the event, a second place result is a very strong effort the we are proud of.  The CRC Gen-XL is still the best value in competition based 1:12th scale cars. With a dominating 2009/2010 season winning Vegas, Cleveland and the Snowbirds, an now a 2nd place finish at the Worlds, The Gen-XL is the car to have in 1:12th scale. The best price, the most winning car, you just can’t go wrong.

With both Groskamp and Harper using the CRC’s #3700 single cell lipo in the largest test of a battery, Calandra Racing now proves that we are in the lipo market in a big way, With 8 minute modified 1:12th scale cars putting a large demand on power and runtime, the strong result of the CRC battery proves you can trust your lipo needs to CRC. A 2s battery is coming soon.

Congratulations to all the competitors with a special congrats to the A-main racers for a great result. CRC will be back in 2012 to try again!
