CRC wins big in Las Vegas at the IIC!

New CRC Gen-X10 LE is Top Qualifier and wins both World GT classes!

CRC cars take Top Qualifier in 4 out of 5 pan car classes,

narrowly missing the T.Q. sweep by .3 seconds!

In the 6 year history of the International Indoor Championship in Las Vegas, Calandra Racing Concepts has captured many victories in the various pan car classes. In 2005, the first IIC A-main went to a CRC 1:12th car. In 2008, CRC won the first ever A-main for the World GT division as well as winning the 1:12th modified class. Then last year in 2009, CRC won 1:12th stock + super stock and defended the modified title as well.

In 2010, Calandra Racing again dominated the IIC in Sin City with a strong performance in all the pan car divisions. CRC driver and Slapmaster tools owner Bodine had a dream weekend by taking the T.Q. and winning both the 1:12th and World GT Limited Speedo divisions. Bodine chose the new CRC Gen-X10 LE (#1712 Lipo Edition) in the 13.5 World GT Class and the CRC Gen-XL in 1:12th scale. Adding to the CRC land slide was Max Kuenning’s T.Q. in 1:12th scale 13.5.

In the other World GT class, the Expert 10.5 WGT, CRC’s own also used the new CRC Gen-X10 LE to T.Q. and win this highly competitive class. The brand new Gen-X 10 Lipo Edition now enjoys an undefeated status. With an expected street price of less than $225, look for a great race car at a great price.

T.Q. Time!

Team CRC cars, tires and lipo cells performed very well taking 4 out of 5 Top Qualifying positions at the event. The “’s” (Bodine and Wynn) took pole in 3 classes, Bodine taking pole in both limited speedo classes and Wynn taking the Expert WGT. New Mexico CRC driver, Max Kuenning, won all 4 rounds of qualifying in 13.5 1:12th scale taking T.Q.. The only division we missed was the 1:12th Modified class where 2-time defending champ Hupo Hönigl narrowly missed T.Q. by .3 seconds. Hupo was on a T.Q. pace with 1 lap to go in the 4th round, however, he played it a little too safe and a slow last lap cost him the pole position.

1:12 13.5 Open Speedo – Max wins 4 out of 5 rounds

It looked like this class was another CRC cake-walk with Max Kuenning winning all 4 rounds of qualifying to take a dominant T.Q.. Joining Max in the A-main were fellow CRC drivers Frank Calandra, Jody Flipse, , Hupo Hönigl, Dave Ehrlich and Bodine. All 7 CRC A-main drivers chose the Gen-XL car, CRC tires and CRC Maxxcell lipo pack. Unfortunately, for the young driver from New Mexico, Max bumped a couple boards and dropped back to second. A late charge put Max within a few feet of the eventually winner. Max’s T.Q. dominance and the late charge at the end proves the power of the Advanced Electronics Black Diamond V2 speed controller. Six of the CRC drivers in the A-main were using the Black Diamond (BD).

1:12th Modified – Hupo just misses the 3-peat and the T.Q..

The IIC has consistently attracted the finest drivers to the 1:12th modified class. The 2 time World Champion Naoto Matsukura was in attendance again this year. Joining him were World Champion A-finalists; Ronald Volker, Josh Cyrul, Paul Lemieux and Kevin Hebert. In addition, former Vegas winners Andy Moore and Mike Blackstock were entered making this a true world class event.

Austrian CRC pilot, Hupo Hönigl, returned to Las Vegas as 2-time defending champion of 1:12th Modified ready to take on the Worlds finest. In qualifying round 4, Hupo narrowly missed taking T.Q. by .3 seconds as he had the T.Q. pace in hand. An overly”safe” last lap cost Hupo the pole position. In the A-main, a close battle between Cyrul, Hönigl, Moore and Volker ensued. Hupo made a small mistake, dropping the him 3 seconds behind the leader. With 2 minutes to go, Hupo began his charge reeling in the leader from a 1/3 lap deficit to less than 5 feet. While Hupo did not win the event, it was a solid strong finish for the CRC Gen-XL, CRC Pro Cut tires and CRC’s new Lipo cell.

CRC’s Maxxcell Lipo (#3700)  providing the go-go juice!

While other manufactures have labeled their packs with all kinds of claims of capacity and “C” rating, the CRC Maxxcell Lipos run longer and stronger than the competition. T.Q.ing, stock, 13.5 and winning many classes at the 2010 IIC, proves the power of the red cell from CRC, part #3700.

1:10th World GT Classes

13.5 Limited Speedo Class – All Bodine again, new CRC Gen-X10 LE goes 1-2!

Keeping his streak of speed and dominance rolling right into World GT, Bodine was the man to beat in this class as well. Taking wins in all 4 rounds of qualifying and leading every lap of the A-main, the Northwest driver kept his dream week going with a dominant win. In addition to the new 10th scale car,  used a full compliment of CRC go-fast goodies again putting the CRC Maxxcell Lipo (#3700) on top. His Denver-based teammate, Mario Ficco, finished well with a great 2nd place result. Mario dogged for the first half of the race but eventually Bodine was able to open up a small gap over Mario. Ryan Borgheiinck joined the duo on the podium with his Manutec/CRC Gen-X 10.

10.5 Expert World GT Open Speedo Class – Dumpers revenge!

Last year, Wynn, known around the world as Dumper, was T.Q. in Expert World GT.  Unfortunately for , he was not able to turn that pole position into an A-main win in 2009. For 2010, arrived in Vegas with all the weapons he needed to avenge last year’s defeat; the new CRC Gen-X10 LE, CRC Maxxcell Lipo and the Advanced Electronics V2.1 Black Diamond Speedo. had a hard fight for T.Q. with his teammate, Hupo Hönigl and Associated driver Mike Blackstock. However in 2010, was ready to turn his T.Q. into a Championship. From pole position, lead every lap, dominating the A-main with a solid victory clinching the CRC sweep of World GT. His teammate Hupo hung on for 3rd after a rough start. CRC drivers Dave Ehrlich + Frank Calandra joined the podium finishers in the Expert World GT A-main.
